Traditional Witchcraft Rituals Area Purification Ritual![]() This is a quick cleansing or purification of an area that is typically done just before laying a compass round or when one senses negativity. This can be done inside or outside of the home. You will need either a 1) besom (broom), 2) a sage bundle (available at occult supply stores), or 3) incense. If you use incense it is preferable to use sage scent, but you can also use frankincense, myrrh, cedar, pine, copal, hyssop, or rosemary.
With besom, sage, or incense in hand, Spin slowly widdershins three times around. Beginning in the East, walk widdershins, slowly in a continuing spiral, and pause at each quarter and move the sage bundle or incense up and down three times. If using sage bundle or incense, then purify the people present by briefly moving the smoking sage or incense up and down three times in front of each person and any pets nearby. When done, snuff out the sage bundle or incense. It can be reused when needed.
Note: While in North America the sage bundle is thought to be North American Indian in origin, sage has been used for ritual cleansing in Traditional Witchcraft in Britain for centuries. Incense serves the same purpose. Traditional Witchcraft Rituals |
