Traditional Witchcraft Rituals

Closing the Compass Round

It is important to close a compass round because to allow its energy to dissipate by itself can be disruptive or harmful to the desired effect of the ritual or magical actions taken within the compass. Also, for the participants, the closing of the compass round allows a smooth transition from a magical energy-charged environment back to the mundane.

To begin, if in a group, say the following:

[This brings us to the end of this compass ritual.
I willll now close the compass.]

Otherwise, start here. Say:

I thank the spirits that have come.
Ye of places near and places far,
From the wood and dell,
From the stars and moon above,
Go forth in peace and love.

Take-Up the Compass

Take the dagger*and go widdershins (counter clockwise) three times around the compass, beginning and ending in the North.

Then, Say:

By my will this compass round is closed.

Extinguish altar candles and incense. Then say:

This compass round is now closed.
And this ritual has ended.

Ground & Balance

Touch the floor/ground with your hand or bare foot.  This will balance your energy level. Retaining too much energy would likely make you feel irritable or give you a mild headache or mild depression. Too little energy would result in feeling fatigued or out-of-sorts.

~ This Ritual Has Ended ~
~ Conclude with the Libation ~

Keep in mind that a compass can be used as a retreat or sanctuary for meditation, as well as a place for ritual and magic at any time, day or night.
