Traditional British Witchcraft Sword
A highly optional item, but one with some popularity. Swords certainly have a romantic quality about them, especially as magical swords are common in mythic literature. In a way, I'm sorry to say that swords do not have a place in Traditional Witchcraft. Nevertheless, they are, in fact, a potent energy-cutting tool and once consecrated they can certainly be used in place of an athame. Because there is no sword tradition, one used in ritual can be made of any material and can be of any shape and design. Only an athame (which must be noticeably shorter than a sword) is required by Wiccan tradition to have a black wooden handle and a two-sided blade. Because of a sword's length, some use a sword only for outdoor circles. If you use a sword indoors, try not to slice up the wallpaper.
