Dagger

athame

(pronounced: ah-THAW-may)

A dagger or athame is used as a ritual knife during some rites and sometimes when working magic.

A dagger usually has:

  • A double-edged blade.
  • A length of between 5 to 13 inches.
  • A black or brown wooden handle.

Trad Witches have often uses any knife from the kitchen or the garden that is handy. Other Trad Crafters and seekers will adapt the use of a permanent formal dagger along the lines described above. However, a formal dagger is not specifically a tradition in many British witchcraft Trads.

Temporarily or in an emergency, any knife can be used including a letter opener.
