~ Glossary of Witchcraft Terms ~ eclectic
In Wicca, an eclectic is one that has taken beliefs, practices, and/or gods from more than one tradition, pagan religion, or philosophy and has blended them into one religious system. This is sometimes referred to as Neo-Wicca. All experienced Wiccans agree that caution should be used as an eclectic mixture of gods and cultures must be logically compatible and can not include a combination of conflicting gods, practices or beliefs from unrelated cultures. An example of conflicting cultures would be combining Norse and Egyptian gods and practices. In Traditional British Witchcraft, Crafters (Traditional Witches) have always had latitude in selecting what they wished to follow in practice and do in ritual. However, this is only as long as it does not conflict with the fundamental principles and practices, the commonalities of the Old Craft. As the core of all Traditional Witchcraft Trads is true to this, our British heritage, and the commonalities of observance and practice, Traditional British Witchcraft is never eclectic.
